Characterization of atomic avoided crossings by means of Fisher’s information

چکیده

Atomic avoided crossings in strong magnetic and electric fields are usually identified by the energy level repulsion and by the sharp extremal value of the Shannon’s entropy of the two involved states. In this work the proposal of a new information-theoretic parameter, the continuous Fisher information, for the prediction and characterization of these nonlinear phenomena is done. For just around the irregular region it is found that Fisher’s informations of the two states cross over and show that the states exchange their informational character. Moreover, the state Fisher information sum keeps constant through the avoided crossing. This is illustrated for some hydrogenic excited states in strong magnetic fields as well as in parallel magnetic and electric fields. Shannon entropy as an indicator of atomic avoided crossings in strong parallel magnetic and electric fields.

Avoided crossings are the most distinctive atomic spectroscopic features in the presence of magnetic and electric fields. We point out the role of Shannon's information entropy as an indicator or predictor of these phenomena by studying the dynamics of some excited states of hydrogen in the presence of parallel magnetic and electric fields. Moreover, in addition to the well-known energy level r...

Raman-induced avoided crossings in adiabatic optical potentials: Observation of lambda /8 spatial frequency in the distribution of atoms.

Chromium atoms traverse an optical potential and the resulting spatial distribution is measured by a new method. Atoms are collected on a substrate and an atomic force microscope is used to determine the flux as a function of position. An unexpectedly high spatial frequency ( /8) is found in the the atomic distribution. This is attributed to avoided crossings arising from Raman coherences induc...

Entanglement, Berry phases, and level crossings for the atomic Breit-Rabi Hamiltonian

The relation between level crossings, entanglement, and Berry phases is investigated for the Breit-Rabi Hamiltonian of hydrogen and sodium atoms, describing a hyperfine interaction of electron and nuclear spins in a magnetic field. It is shown that the entanglement between nuclear and electron spins is maximum at avoided crossings. An entangled state encircling avoided crossings acquires a marg...

Application of Scanning Electron and Atomic Force Mode Microscopy on inscription from Proto-Elamite period in Tappeh Sofalin

The study of cultural heritage artifacts and the research of a protection and restoration intervention create with - and are often limited to - a complete characterization of their surface. This is not only factual for museum objects, but also for archaeological artifacts, because the object as it was discovered may contain precious unknown information that could be lost by too much aggressive ...

Semiclassical analysis of long-wavelength multiphoton processes: The Rydberg atom

We study the problem of multiphoton processes for intense, long-wavelength irradiation of atomic and molecular electrons. An exact, nonperturbative approach is applied to the standard vector potential coupling Hamiltonian for a three-dimensional hydrogenlike atom in a microwave field treated semiclassically. Multiphoton probability exchange is calculated in both the velocity and the length gaug...
